Lord, Make Me An Instrument of Your Peace

Click link above to hear a version of this prayer sung by Sarah McLachlan. Close your eyes and breathe deeply. Have a lovely Sunday (happy Pentecost).

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O, Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

  1. Okay, so this site needs at least one comment. I would like to hear the posters perspective of the deliverance of this song. The written words are wonderful but didn't you reserve some judgement about the person?

  2. What person? The rather awful drawing, or the singer?

  3. I guess I saw only one -- the teary eyed lady

  4. Oh, her. Well, there was a reason I warned you to "close your eyes." That art is a cousin to dogs-playing-poker and Elvis-on-black-velvet. (What happened to her left leg?)

  5. The words are from St. Francis of Assisi. (1181-1226)
